Author: Mercedes Lackey

It had been a while since I read any Mercedes Lackey so I've been going back to read and/or re-read some of her books. Particularly since Methos as a Herald of Valdemar continues to pester me. Anyway, her books are a lot of fun even if they don't have particularly sophisticated plot or character development. However, the one thing that suddenly struck me was that here is a mainstream writer who has canonical slash. Is that not cool? I can't, off the top of my head, think of any other book or series that has it so casually in place, where the book is still plot driven and, oh yes, the love interest happens to be same-sex as the main character. Lackey has written a lot of books and sometimes they're slash, sometimes they're het, sometimes they're gen, but they're always no more than PG-13. I just thought that was very cool. If you can think of any other author who writes like this, let me know.

I like your ideas a lot.

Idea #1
I can definitely see Methos and Alberich bonding. In my vision, they're sitting back and watching all of the trainees training, commenting to each other and occasionally to a trainee about any mistakes they see. But everyone is a bit unsure of who exactly Methos is because he only spars with Alberich (but those are amazing bouts to watch) and he doesn't want to even be in the same room as anyone wearing all white.

I had forgotten about Alberich's box of stuff, but that might be a good way for them to have met. Maybe Alberich went looking for someone who could identify old and unusual implements of war. Methos would definitely be able to.

Idea #2
Just the idea makes me laugh. I hope you do write this up. It can be just a short one-page scene. It would be awesome! Methos gets the language but no migraine. And the poor dyheli who did it is completely knocked out and wakes up with a major migraine and knowledge of like 50 extra languages that no one other than Methos speaks anyway. Heh. And that becomes the backstory of the very peculiar (and possibly crazy) dyheli language scholar. Please, please write it?

thanks, oh and here's an author

thanks, unfortunately the last time I wrote a story was in school, about 14 years ago. My dad is the story writer not me, he neglected to pass on that gene!
As for authors that have het and slash etc.. as part of their canon, have you read Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series?? they are amazing ( and crazy yet it works).

Adri Methos Slytherin
(I was going to go with just Adri but it was taken, so I kept adding stuff!)

If it's been 14 years, then it's high time to try again. After all, I imagine a lot has changed over the years, maybe you've gotten better. And it's such a fun little story: you should at least try. Please?

And yeah, I have read all of Bujold's published writing. She's awesome. I was about to say that I couldn't think of any slash in it aside from some of Aral's backstory, but then I remembered: Ethan of Athos. I don't know how I could have forgotten him. Did I forget anything else?
