This year I participated in the Highlander Secret Santa that Amand-r so wonderfully hosted. All of the stories, with the authors revealed are now listed on hlh-shortcuts.livejournal.com.

The story that I received (Yay!) was:

Shadow Dance

1967 and Methos finds himself trapped on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain. While biding his time until he can get out, he meets an intriguing young student named Henrietta, and the meeting may affect both of theirs lives for a long time to come

The story that I wrote for dswdiane was:

Neutral Good
The day-to-day life of an Immortal has less to do with long life and challenges and more to do with fake identities and carrying concealed weapons.

Since this story was submitted on a deadline, I'm going to give it another round of editing before I publish it on either FF.net or AO3.

So I completely my fic for the Highlander Secret Santa fic exchange, but I only barely completed it on time (well, a couple of hours past the deadline, but close enough!) and am now thinking of different ways that it could be improved. Urg.

In a distraction from thinking about that and how the longer it goes from when I work on a story to when I get feedback, the worse the story gets in my memory, I now present some more little ficlets:

Then, for the query, this is something of a long-shot, but I figure it's worth asking anyway: are any of the people reading this journal going to be attending the Wizard World Austin Comic Con? 

The prompt:


inspired me to actually figure out what this whole Revenge thing was. What it is, is great! It's a modern re-imagining of The Count of Monte Cristo, one of my old favorite books. It starts off with a sweet love story and then there's betrayal and imprisonment, escape and revenge. The Count is super clever and manipulates the downfall of those who betrayed him. And it's a wonderfully satisfying guilty pleasure. In Revenge, there are number of changes made, most noticeably the fact that the main character is female and the daughter of the guy who was framed for treason. And, of course, that it's set in modern America, specifically in The Hamptons. But, it still manages to keep the feel of the one character manipulating events beautifully to bring about a downfall of those corrupt individuals who had betrayed her, and by golly enjoying their downfall. Also, nicely, I can watch the episodes online.

By the time I had watched the first four episodes (it's a new show, that's all there is at this point), I only sort of remembered the prompt and so wrote my first fill for the mis-remembered prompt:
