The Sentinel is a fun show with the basic premise that some people (Sentinels) have hyperactive senses (sight, hearing, etc, including psychic visions) that let them do all sorts of impressive things but also come with weaknesses that require someone else (a Guide) to help them control.

Canonically, the existence of Sentinels and Guides are not widely known although there are some shadowy government types who have a clue. However, there's a significant subset of the fandom that writes AU stories in which the phenomenon is well known and well documented. I like this variation.

And given that I'm still neck deep in my obsession with NCIS, of course I have an idea for a crossover.

I have this idea that Gibbs is a Sentinel: after all he always seems to know what people are saying, even when they're across the room, knows when people are lying to him, and gets "gut feelings" which are generally dead accurate. So I have this idea that Gibbs is a Sentinel and he knows it. He has always known it and was perfectly fine with it. In fact, Shannon, his first wife, was his Guide.

Then she dies and he suppresses most of his abilities. He attempts to replace her every so often looking for a red-headed woman to marry and it generally goes poorly for all concerned. (That's canon.) But he doesn't tell anyone about his first marriage (again: canon) or being a suppressed Sentinel.

Then Tony DiNozzo arrives.

Tony may or may not know he's a Guide, but it's not a flashy thing, and in canon mostly means he likes people and gets along well with most people. But he is a Guide and he while he doesn't know that Gibbs is a Sentinel, Gibbs certainly knows that Tony is a Guide.

When Gibbs hired Tony, he didn't think it would matter. As time passes however, Gibbs discovers that his senses are beginning to present themselves again. Because he won't actively seek Tony's assistance with them, Gibbs can't use them to their fullest extent, but they're still better than before. Plus, Tony and Gibbs are each able to do things like successfully order and/or beg each other not to die. (Both Sentinel and NCIS canon) So Gibbs is trying to deal with his senses and Tony's presence and having a Guide again without telling Tony that he's been co-opted as Gibbs' Guide in the first place.

It would be oodles of fun and I really want to read this story. If someone knows something similar or writes it up, please let me know.

Well good written fic can always be enjoyable and some people could make even barney slash seem good, so I am not oposed to the occasional Ncis slash but its not how I see it.

and I agree, how Methos is portrayed is what ruined most of the slash in HL for me. and while i can't see Methos ever being commited to nay immortal, especially now that his brothers are gone I can see him having a few friends with benefits in the immortal circle, especially from the older ages where people didn't take sex so seriously, and many of them likely don't know he is Methos, just know him by the name he had at the time they first met.

but a lovey dovey relationship? I think he would only risk it with mortals and if he was getting seirous with an immortal he would disappear into a monastery for a few hundred years until he got over it.

The idea of Methos in a "lovey-dovey" relationship makes me laugh. I can imagine him deeply in love, but I can't imagine him being sentimental.

But I think he could get in over his head in an emotional relationship with another immortal. But I don't think he'd have a casual sexual one, just because he would never trust them enough to be completely disarmed.

well I magine him and Alexa were sentimental, but not the way he would be everytime he is in love... I think it would depend on who he was when has in love as he is so much of a method actor that he takes over each personality.

I can see him having a casual relationship with Fitz, Rebecca or even with Ramirez who he is likely the only one to remember the real name.... sort of like friends with some benefits... but not totally trusted that no never...

not even with Byron and I am sure that he and Doc were at one time an item before Methos decided that he needed out.

You're right about Methos being a method actor, so his character might well be lovey-dovey, but I don't think he would be to the extent that when he changed characters the lovey-dovey aspect would not be carried through to his next persona even though the love itself is. Does that make sense?

And I had forgotten about Byron, but I agree that he and Doc had almost certainly been getting it on.

I just still have trouble seeing Methos casually go unarmed with any immortal, especially one of the older ones, even if they are friends. Although maybe I just need to adjust my image of Methos. Hmm...

Oh I can see it, I also don't think it would carry, rather that every new persona is always somewhat opposite of the last one so the degree of tenderness and fluff he is capable varies, but deep down he is not for that.... being something to new for him.

they were totally getting it on... and as for doing it unarmed with other immies, that is why there are so many great holy ground homes in the immortal comunities...

old temples and abbeys and monasteries, andd any other place which is still holy.

but if he has some control of the situation it wouldn't necessarily be on HG as long as he could be reasonably confident that he could subdue the other if anything happened....

And all of those monks and priests who have taken vows of chastity grinding their teeth at the fact that immortals are constantly stopping by the sole purpose of having a tryst on holy ground. Hee. That just makes me laugh.

Makes us wonder who actually started those sex temples in ancient greece where one could go to worship love... old immortales must have hated when vows of chasity became the norm in monasteries and convents...

And then there's Methos' history as a temple prostitute...

(Duncan doesn't know. Joe does.)

of course... he has likely tried every religion on the world that offers holy ground at one point or another and repeated those he liked more when he could!
