Methos meets the Xmen

This is actually already posted in previous comments, but since I'm using this journal as a pasture for my rabid plot bunnies, I wanted to give it it's own entry. Thus, here is my very basic plot bunny for Methos (my crossover character of choice, good for practically all occasions) meeting the X-Men.

The X-men randomly run across Adam Pierson doing whatever, shopping for socks maybe, and go, "hey, wasn't that you in the military base, stealing our kids?"

Methos says, "you must have gotten me confused with someone else."

Prof X says, "There's an easy way to figure this out. I'll just take a look in your head."

Methos says, "that's pretty much a really bad idea."

Then Prof X goes into a seizure then coma as his mind goes into Methos and Methos' quickening gobbles it right up like it would if it were the free-floating quickening of another immortal.

The Xmen are horrified. "What did you to do Prof X?"

Methos blinks innocently, "Don't you mean what did he do to me? He tried to get into my head! I told him it was a bad idea."

Of course, what I'd really like is to get Methos and Eric Lehnsherr together. Not necessarily in a slash sense, but just interacting.  I can see them getting along a lot better than Methos and Charles Xavier. I can also see Methos being a lot more comfortable with the Brotherhood than with the Xmen.

The Xmen are a bit condescending in their belief that non-mutants are innocent bystanders while the Brotherhood is honest in their belief that non-mutants are a danger. Methos might not approve of their methods, but he would understand both their motives and methods a lot more than the Xmen.

Plus, I think the general population would probably find the Brotherhood more comforting, in a backhanded sort of way, than the Xmen, because the Brotherhood with all their powers and their anger are bad guys who are successfully defended against. They are a demonstration that humanity doesn't actually have to fear mutant powers too much because even when they're being used to destroy the world, well, it's not that successful. The Xmen, on the other hand, set themselves up as benevolent quasi-deities who are only intent on defending humanity, and thus humanity is just waiting to figure out the catch.

Anyway, one particular way of implementing the crossover would be: 

Methos is confronted by the Xmen which results in Prof X in a coma. He retreats but is later found by Magneto and after a few sarcastic comments about making targets of oneself, Methos and Magneto become friends.

Meanwhile Duncan meets up with the Xmen after getting some odd reports about where Methos was last seen. They get along fine until he discovers that Methos is with the Bad Guys. He calls Connor for advice.

Due to Connor's daughter Rachel's history with concentration camps and the fine line between mutants and immortals, the elder Highlander sides with the Brotherhood in this particular fight.

Joe bangs his head against the bar and finally decides that maybe the original watchers had the right idea with their "observe but never interfere" bit, because when you interfere you have to pick a side and that gets really messy really fast.

I don't have any idea where this story would go but the character interactions sure would be fun.

I know.. I keep rereading her No Dominion on the hopes a new chapter will spontaneously appear.
I wish we had seen more of Fitzcairn he like Amanda just brings out Duncan's inner child and and his more fun side.

I think that is the problem, I have been reading fanfic for so long that the drama of the fight fics don't do it for me anymore in any fandom and more and more I crave x-over, non cannon pairings and alternate universes because there you can see those new sides.

Methos and Magneto would be fun! And I can so see Eric being slightly frustrated by some of Methos quips but still happy to have an intellectual equal to argue with once again.
Prof.X would be jealous and so would Duncan that he no longer has the old man at his side teasing and giving advice... not to mention the poor history he has with Methos' friends coming into play.

Yeah, I have the same issue with books too. A lot of the same plots and characters get used so it's harder and harder to find new interesting ideas.

Anyway, there are Eric and Methos getting along wonderfully. Prof X and Duncan both brooding about their lost friends and each of them thinking well maybe they would like each other but only having stilted conversations about good and virtue and feeling a bit annoyed that they don't actually click with the person that really they *should* be best friends with. We, the readers, of course know that they need to be aggravated and challenged rather than agreed with.

And Duncan really wants to *kill* Magneto.

Prof X: "Do you want to kill him because he's evil or because your friend is friends with him?"

Duncan, dryly, "the two generally go together."

Prof X, just as dryly, "That may be, but I get the sense your motivation is more one than the other."

Duncan flushes.

I agree which is why I am now more and more getting into satirical and funny books... the same stories but making fun of themselves!

Oh yes discussing good and virtue would be boring after a while and the only thing they could argue over is whenever long hair or baldness is better and who had the most annoying best friend!
Which I find to be funny because Methos claims Joe is his best friend on a few occasions.

and that conversation would go on marvelously... the professor might help Duncan deal with his judgmental nature

Although the cliched nature of most books does mean that the satires are all the funnier since you can get all the jokes and those few books that are completely new are all the more precious.

And maybe Prof X could help Duncan with being a bit too judgmental but Prof X has his own set of issues. Have you noticed that all the Xmen are beautiful and all the ugly mutants are members of the Brotherhood?

oh yes... which is why I love Discworld and Gaiman's works somehow there is always some kind of newness to them and the characters as well as the plots are involving.

i hadn't noticed that, though Kurt and McCoy aren't exactly gorgeous maybe the professor likes the color Blue as well. It would be funny to see if someone pointed that out to Xavier and see what he would reply, like Duncan he likely isn't aware of that side of himself

Gaiman does a wonderful job of both satirizing the cliches and bringing up entirely new ideas. He really is fabulous, although I prefer his comics to his regular novels.

McCoy may not be gorgeous in the traditional sense, but he is a giant blue teddy bear. Admittedly, it's something of a tradition for illustrators to show good guys as gorgeous and bad guys as hideous, so there's a reason for Prof X's prejudice (In the immortal words of Jessica Rabbit, "I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.") but it's still there.

Sandman was such a work of art! I love his works and I have recently acquired Good Omens which I am dying to read!


I can see that, and you know that Methos would throw that into X's face if they ever got into a debate just make the professor pause and analyze it

"Sandman" is so very awesome but "Good Omens" is also a treat. I think it's my favorite of both his and Terry Pratchett's novels. Their writing styles complement each other so very well. Plus, who doesn't find religion hilarious?

I am looking forward to reading it, I have read so much about Azaphael and Crowley I feel I know them and since the authors are who they are, who can resist?
