So my first post on my first livejournal. I have the definite urge to write something deeply meaningful. Since I can't think of anything particularly deeply meaningful at the moment that isn't also trite, cliched, and schmaltzy, I will instead outline a fanfiction story that I really want to read but have no desire to write.
It's a CSI: Miami crossover with Highlander.
An old rich recluse dies under questionable circumstances that, among other things, leaves no body. Sufficient blood maybe for proof of death, but no body. The heir arrives: he is young, smooth, charming, and shows no mourning. Horatio Crane is deeply suspicious.
It's discovered that the accident was no accident, the death was intentional, and the heir did not arrive when he said he did. Horatio goes on one of his sanctimonious little rants about how he'll pin this on the heir.
Then it's discovered that the dead recluse was the only person capable of orchestrating the accident: it must have been a suicide, but what a strange suicide it is. There must be more to it. Horatio won't give up, he's still back-tracking the heir.
Then it's discovered that the heir is the recluse, starting a new identity because he looks too young to be older version any more.
There's no proof, it's not even clear if there's been a real crime. The CSI team has to let it go, but now knows that there are some very old people out there who don't look it. Interesting.
There are no challenges, no quickenings, no Game in this story, just a look at some of the other difficulties of being immortal.
Anyway, if anyone ends up writing this, or knows a story that's similar, please let me know so that I can go and read it.

Date: 2008-11-08 08:54 pm (UTC)in you HL/SG fic at the end there was the perfect description of him being able to turn disadvantages into advantages and enemies into allies. So yeah I love uber-competent Methos =D
Having Ritchie be learning it from the Master would be awesome and you know that the learning experience would have plenty of amusing moments to entertain ROG and make it worth his time
Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-08 03:33 pm (UTC)I read 'Square Peg in a Round Hole' and found it really well done. Finely polished and well thought out. Cassandra just made me crack up at the end.... I keep expecting to see Jake do his senior year through Internet distance learning.... ::snicker::
Anyway, I've been on LJ for over five years. It's a wide and varied place. Be warned. It can drive you up the wall sometimes, but it can still be rewarding. Sometimes I feel as if I'm going senile much earlier than I'm meant to, though. After time, people change their user-names, or you forget what fandom you picked up friends in, or if you found a person first on ff.net, then on yahoo-groups then on LJ? Or just what was that progression? LJ doesn't exactly keep a contact database for you (Plaxo does, for free, and it interfaces with *everything*) - Thunk!

Re: Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-08 08:17 pm (UTC)Anyway, if you write a Labyrinth/Highlander story you really need to tell me so I can check it out. "The Source" sounded back enough in reviews that I've never actually watched it, but I would love to see it done correctly. Plus, I like both fandoms a lot.
One of my current plot bunnies is a Labyrinth/Harry Potter story. Because, (1) Toby is described as "the babe with the power... power of voodoo", (2) Sarah, muggle though she may be, has a will as strong as the goblin kings': can you imagine the first time someone tries to cast Imperio on her? She would beat them down. (3) compare the Labyrinth to Hogwarts, moving walls and staircases and such? Clearly Hogwarts is goblin architecture. The worlds could fit together so well, I just need to figure out a good plot to display it all.
Labyrinth/Highlander
Date: 2008-11-09 05:36 am (UTC)Believe me, if I get a Lab/Highlander crossover done, it will be completely convoluted. Hey, I'm the gal that comes up with wanting to cross Jeremiah with HP, or at least Hermione's character. Jeremiah/Joan of Arcadia; Jeremiah/Highlander with a dash of Doomsday would work. Really, I should make a list of all those post apocalyptic shows - Firefly is just fun, and I wish
I can't bring myself to write B5 or Buffy, or even SG1 fanfic - and since Atlantis is coming to an end, I can't really find a point anymore.
Re: Labyrinth/Highlander
Date: 2008-11-09 05:55 am (UTC)While there's not as much general interest in fanfic for shows already over, I don't think there's any less of a point to them than any other story. It just depends on how intriguing you find the characters or the premise, if they can survive the loss of their origin.
I'm told....
Date: 2008-11-09 07:18 am (UTC)Or, Dr. Amy Zoll visits Seacouver and hits 'Adam' outside of Joe's Bar. Anyway, she is horrified, and runs inside to tell Joe that she just killed Adam. Meanwhile, Georgia is basically trying to keep 'Adam' from diving back into his body. She thinks he's a raving lunatic when he keeps insisting that he'll wake up. Joe comes out and brings 'Adam' into the back room with Mike's help. Then he calls Mac. Amy's in hysteric's. She throws up in the gutter when she sees Adams blood all over her car; Adam is now just inside the bar making really snide remarks about 'see what happens when you argue with the 5000 year old man about history'? George mutters how 'awful' and 'delusional' 'Adam' is and won't let him anywhere near the back room near his body, in case he really tries to dive back in. She drags him to a corner booth/table (?) and orders a soft drink, calls Rube on her pay-per-minute cell-phone. She mutters under her breath that if he causes her any more trouble he will regret it. The hyperbole gets worse and worse. Eventually, Mac tells Dr. Zoll that Adam was pre-immortal, so he should be waking up. Eventually. This sends Amy into Another round of hysterics because 'Adam' is her best researcher! Then don't tell anyone! But that would be wrong!
Rube shows up. 'Adam' states his case. Rube makes a phone call. While Rube is on the phone, Mac bring George a beer - she thinks she is losing her mind and is softly singing...'who is that graveling hanging from the rafters?:thunk thunk:
'Amy has always been a bit excitable,' Mac says like the two of them have known each other for years.
'Why are you here? Talking to me?'George asks.
'Just wanted to let you know that Amy didn't kill our friend. He's okay. Although, he's taking a bit longer than normal to wake up - I figured you might know something about that? Georgia Lass, isn't it?'
5000 year old delusional reaps. Live people who knew who she was. She drank the beer.'Adam'kept prattling on and on about it wasn't fair how she was drinking his beer.'Live with it'she hisses.'I can't'he spits back. 'You won't let me go back to my body and wake up'.
'Well, Peanut, the guys upstairs fucked the duck!'
'Aw, Rube, you always have such sweet things to say to me.'
'I'll be right back,' Rube leaves again, gives some Xanax to Dr. Zoll. Says she can do one of two things. Squeal on Adam Pierson, lose her best researcher, and never find out where Methos is; or, forget this ever happened, give the kid a sabbatical since, 1; you killed him, 2; he's probably terrified of this so called game after Kalas tried torturing him before Mac over there rescued him, and 3; his wife just died. Also, he was running around France trying to keep tabs on a Dark Quickening, witnessed Sean Burns permanent Death, and has run up a huge procrastinator's tab with Joe due to all the stress. Oh, and if you let him keep his job, he has a better chance of actually finding this 5000 year old man, now that he can actually sense when he might be around Mac over there. So which choice?"
Joe is just staring at Rube in shock. Not to mention Mac and 'Adam'.
"You're catching flies." Georgia said.
Dr. Zoll takes her Xanax. "I'll pay his tab. He gets a year off. I keep quiet if he does."
"Good choice-vehicular manslaughter is a bitch to have on your record. Let me call you a cab to take you where you want to go?" Amy nodded. "Yeah, sure. Sounds good. The rental?"
"I'm sure someone will take care of it." Rube said. Amy leaves.
'Adam' yells 'Yes! A valid first death is established!!'
Rube tells Peanut to let him dive back into his body.
George leaves very very pissed off at the whole situation! 'I can't believe she paid his bar tab!'
...and the hijinks can continue, when I remember them?

Re: I'm told....
Date: 2008-11-09 07:33 pm (UTC)that seems to be a nice one-shot to be read once properly written!
Please say you will write it?
there is just so much snark potential!
I miss Dead Like ME
Re: Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-08 08:57 pm (UTC)I want to read it!!!
Even if I have no idea what the Labyrinth is (the fandom that is)
Re: Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-09 01:12 am (UTC)The fandom is mostly made up of people going: "She turned David Bowie down? We've got to fix that."
Re: Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-09 02:37 am (UTC)seems interesting...
I will have to find it to watch!
I love fantasy movies and seeing DB as a goblin will be nice!
Goblin King Vs. Methos

Date: 2008-11-09 06:17 am (UTC)Re: Goblin King Vs. Methos
Date: 2008-11-09 07:25 am (UTC)I'm going with - Lady of the the Labyrinth theme here. Lady in Green. In fact, her 'schedule' doesn't always synch up with the Goblin Kings. But she is the 'Guardian' there. He's meant to scare the kiddies. Heh. How's that for irony?
Re: Goblin King Vs. Methos
Date: 2008-11-11 05:21 pm (UTC)It really is as magical as you described and Jareth's costumes really show more than they shuold... poor DB having to display the family jewels like that!
I can really imagine Methos and Jareth as old acquaintances!
Especially as Marble says, Methos has a tendency to like high maintenance people and Sarah and Jareth definetely are that!
Re: Goblin King Vs. Methos
Date: 2008-11-11 07:32 pm (UTC)Anyway, so here's a question: How old is Jareth? It's never really stated in the movie, and the fandom likes to make him anywhere from centuries to millennium. Naturally, in response, I want to make him really young, since I haven't seen it done before. But what do you think, age-wise?
Re: Goblin King Vs. Methos
Date: 2008-11-11 08:09 pm (UTC)well according to what I read of the manga he has been in the labyrinth for 1300 years... but you could make him relatively young species wise and not alone for a change... have him be the equivalent to minor family black sheep who everyone still likes... you know the 19/20year old who wants to live out of his music and not take responsibility for the family business... but still knows that eventually he might have to
Re: age of the Goblin King
Date: 2008-11-11 10:47 pm (UTC)Anyway, I think your right: Jareth may need a large rambunctious family filled with siblings and cousins who visit all the time, (except when he's babysitting a wished-away, unless it's to drop of their own babies so he can babysit them too) and aunts who tell him to clean up his messy, messy castle.
Re: age of the Goblin King
Date: 2008-11-11 10:57 pm (UTC)Oh yes he does! he needs them desperately you know his land is a an overgrown bachelor's pad! Especially in the way a college guy maintains his, everything to be cleaned later if there are more interesting things to be done and games to be played!
And he has to have someone dropping kids with him once in a while h wouldn't be such an accomplished babysitter otherwise!
Re: Goblin King Vs. Methos
Date: 2008-11-09 07:11 pm (UTC)That does sound very interesting but I doubt that Jareth will take that lightly...
and the Source must be undone! truly!
Re: Square Peg....
Date: 2008-11-09 05:22 am (UTC)uhm.... sign up for Mutable_Cantos as well.... My drafts will be going in there. ::Face Palms::
OMG! I just read on Cracked news that the rough cut had those cannabalistic s.o.b.'s actually catch Methos in 'The Source'... and Kill him! I *so* want to get my hand on the rough cut pirated version of that movie now. Thank goodness that part was cut out.... I would still like to see the scenes the were in the rough cut though.
And, btw, does Anna & Duncan expect to live happily ever after? They have no way to get home, no way to get away from the cannibals. Oh, and Duncan will be furious if he finds out that Methos didn't survive.
Added!
Date: 2008-11-09 07:15 pm (UTC)Impossible! He eats them for breakfast! He cannot be killed!
especially by some freaks with spears!
Well Duncan can always throw Anna at them to distract them and runaway with his friend... she would deserve it!
